Crospovidone disintegrant can absorb more than 40% of the polyphenols in the protein-polyphenol turbidity, and has a greater adsorption capacity for the di- to tetrameric polyphenols that are prone to cause turbidity. Therefore, after the beer is filtered by PVPP adsorption, the polyphenol polymerization index in the beer can be reduced, cold haze can be prevented, the appearance of permanent turbidity can be delayed, and the beer can obtain a longer shelf life. PVPP can absorb polyphenols in beer, so it will also reduce the "aging taste" caused by the oxidation of polyphenols in beer. Before PVPP is used, it must be swelled for more than 1h by absorbing water in deoxygenated water. PVPP adsorption not only takes a certain time, but also fully contacts with the polyphenols in beer. Different types of PVPP have different contact times with beer. PVPP filtration has no obvious effect on beer concentration, total acidity, color, flavor, and foam, but the bitterness is reduced by 3% to 5%. Generally, the non-biological stability of PVPP-treated beer can be extended by 2 to 4 months. At present, there are PVPP products that can be recycled and reused, which can reduce the cost of use.
