Uses

Cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone is a water-insoluble tablet disintegrant that can quickly show high capillary activity and excellent hydration ability, with almost no tendency to gel; studies have shown that the size of cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone particles strongly affects the disintegration of antipyretic and analgesic tablets, and cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone with large particles can disintegrate faster than smaller particles. Cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone is a very good disintegrant. The dosage in tablets is generally 1-2%, which can achieve the disintegration effect of other commonly used ordinary disintegrants. It is called a super disintegrant.

Cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone can also be used as a dry adhesive, filler and excipient for tablets, capsules and granules. The smaller particle size can reduce the streaks on the tablet surface in the compressed tablet and improve the uniformity of the tablet. The commonly used dosage is 20-80 mg/tablet.

Cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone can also be used as a dissolution promoter. The co-evaporation technology can increase the solubility of poorly soluble drugs: first, the drug is adsorbed on the cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone with an appropriate solvent, and then the solvent is evaporated. This technology can achieve a faster dissolution rate.

This product is also widely used in the food industry as a filter aid in wine and vinegar production to remove enzymes and proteins.

Cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyphenols can form stable complexes and can be used to refine water-soluble or alcohol-containing herbal extracts and tinctures to improve the stability of herbal medicines.
